Q: What do we do?
A: We at the Reborn Lightsaber Academy strive to teach Star Wars fans of all kinds the different forms and styles of lightsabers.
Q: What will I learn?
A: You will learn how to fight with a lightsaber. You will also learn the many forms of lightsaber combat.
Q: What lightsaber style and form should I choose?
A: What style of lightsaber you choose should be what fits your personal style of fighting. You should not choose based on what you think is cool. Choose based on your personal combats style and tendencies, be that more defensive, aggressive, or balanced. Ask an instructor for a recommendation.
Q: How will I know my force affiliation and why is it important?
A: You will take a test administered by Grandmaster Michael Ricketts. Your force affiliation will help you get an idea of what you should do in regards to preparing for combat, how you act in combat, and how you learn your forms, but it plays little part in the academy itself.y
Q: What types of lessons will there be?
A: All classes will be different based on the form the class will focus that day.
Q: Could I get private lessons on forms?
A: Of course you can! Talk to a master or grandmaster to give you a private lesson.
Q: If I were to buy a LED lightsaber, where would I get one?
A: We recommend Ultrasabers as the provider for your lightsaber, since they are durable and not badly priced. We recommend getting a heavy grade blade and no sound. The lithium-ion battery required for sound is easily destroyed in heavy contact, causing damage to your lightsaber and possibly yourself.
Q: What are the benefits of learning lightsaber combat?
A: It is a fun way of getting some exercise and to be outside with a community of likeminded individuals. It can also give you experience in a way of defending yourself. It is mostly a fun activity and allows you to meet new people.
Q: What should I wear for classes?
A: Wear something comfortable that you can move around easily in. Do keep in mind we do almost all of our classes outside and the possible weather for the day.
Q: What else should I bring for classes?
A: We recommend your combat gear, your LED lightsaber, LED lightsaber maintenance equipment, your phone, and a water bottle. Do bring these even though we MAY have extra sabers and water on site (there is no guarantee).
Q: What is a combat exercise?
A: During class, we will utilize a wide array of what we call "combat exercises". These are various types of fighting to allow students to use their lightsaber skills.
Q: What types of combat exercises are there?
A: Combat exercises include, but are not limited to: sparring matches where two students have an honorable duel, gladiatorial arena style combat where multiple students engage in a free-for-all styled fight, team arena style combat where two teams are made and the two teams fight each other, and objective styled combat where two teams are made and the teams must fight each other to complete and objective (varies from capture the flag to VIP).
